Your result: The Antelope
You scored 46% domestic, 57% gregarious, 25% trickster, and 61% intellect!

Wild, Gregarious, Serious and Intellectual: you are the Antelope! Action, Speed, Adaptability of the Mind. Antelope teaches survival, how to avoid indiscriminate destruction of life. The Antelope signifies knowledgeable action. Antelope medicine is the knowledge of life’s circle, the knowledge and understanding of death. Antelope people are swift-minded, intellectual people who tend to approach problems in unconventional ways. They are survivors and relish freedom above all.
This test categorized you based on four different axes of personality, which were then associated with a different animal. The four axes, as well as all possible results are explained below.
Wild/Domestic: This first axis categorizes you based on how much you are drawn to the outdoors, versus how much you are drawn to civilized situations. Domesticity has many shapes and forms, and varies from the joy of dolphins leaping next to a ship to the steadfast loyalty of a family dog.
Gregarious/Solitary: This axis measures how solitary you are. If you scored high, it means that you enjoy the company of other people, while a low score indicates that you prefer a more solitary lifestyle.
Trickster/Serious: This axis measures how well you line up with conventional trickster archetypes. People who fall into this archetype have a sense of humor and an excitable, highly chaotic streak. Scoring low doesn't mean that you don't have a sense of humor; it just means that you probably don't think dynamite is very funny.
Intellectual/Emotional: This last axis determines whether you are more emotional -- acting based on feelings and instinct, or rational and intelectual -- acting more on thought than on your gut feelings.

We started out pretty well in 1988 with the single Between Two Fires, even though some conservative stations wouldn't play us because they suspected a sexual reference in our band name. Mad About You (disambiguation) then topped the charts worldwide, especially enjoying great popularity among categorizing philosophers. In 1989 we won the Grammy Livetime Achievement Award for the coolest album title EVAH! But things started to turn to the bad with the release of the music video to Satan rir media, which featured the ritual chopping of twelve white hens, two baby bunnies, and one reigning American president (of the Rabbit Breeders Association - what did you think?). My fellow band members are now spending their days sentenced to life imprisonment in a jail in Singapore. I am, in fact, risking quite a lot by telling you about all this.

Half of their choices aren't really serious, but I got to see a lot of great videos I haven't seen in many years.
Since, I'm in a complete old-amazing-music-videos nostalgia.
( And now I will make you suffer for it! ;) )
I could post many more videos from that list here, but I think it's enough for now. Especially since there are quite a lot of great videos that I miss.
( You didn't really think you could escape from them, did you? )
If you're looking for any conclusions here, you're looking in the wrong place.
But feel invitied to comment with your favourite videos. :)
Your Score: Language Scholar
You scored a 320 out of 400 on language knowledge.

Outstanding! You've scored higher than even most Anthropology students would. You are probably a Linguistics or Anthropology Professor yourself (or at least a Grad student). You may even speak several languages and are possibly working on a new one. If not, then you just have an endless drive to learn about the different cultures of our world. Regardless, you are one of the gems of any society, always promoting a deeper understanding amongst all people. Unless you cheated of course.

You are 56% enlightened!

You could be either very well studied on badly written sources, or poorly studied on accurate sources. In either case, you've managed to do a decent job. You're still widely open to manipulation, but at least you've put forth effort towards figuring out where the strings are.

Volo has bad karma, he has.
I'm quite excited what will come out of the new Germandowns community. Kudos to all the members, and Jay in particular!
But other than that, there is nothing to report from here except what can already be read on Erika's journal. ;)
I bought the new Nine Inch Nails album "Year Zero" a month ago and was immediately and simply blown away. I first thought about putting a review (read: unconditional praise) up here, but then came to think, well, maybe it's just the first impression. Sometimes it's the things you adore most at first sight which lose their appeal the quickest. But now a month has passed and I still think it's a fucking work of genius.
If you like this kind of music, or like this kind of topic, then this surely is worth every euro/dollar/pound of the money spent.
(I've never written any kind of review before, so I hope this isn't too bad)
Apart from that, the work I scheduled for myself today turned out to be easier than I thought, so I decided to sneak home earlier. Even better than that is too see one possible hindrance of a trip to the US after the other disappear. :)
Those of you who have read the letters of J.R.R. Tolkien may remember how hilariously annoyed Tolkien was about the "efforts" of the Swedish translator of of the Lord of the Rings, Ake Ohlmarks. Let me tell you that Ohlmarks is an amateur, a lousy amateur compared with the magnificent Wolfgang Krege.
You have to know that, sometime after the Lord of the Rings came out, somebody (Margaret Carroux) translated it into German. She was assisted by Tolkien himself, concerning the translation of the names. The translation wasn't perfect, heaven forbid, there were some minor errors and some thought that the language she used was a bit too monotonous. But, overall, it was good and nobody really ever complained.
In 1999 a new translation came out, by Wolfgang Krege. He had previously translated the Silmarillion (very well) and re-translated the Hobbit and had now turned to the big one. What Krege was up to do puts him into another league than Ohlmarks, who once annoyed Tolkien so much. I translate a short passage out of the translator's afterword first:
"The new version presumes an attempt to bring the story forward the way Tolkien would have, had he written today, 1999, and had he brought it directly from Westron into German, without the detour by English."
What he effectively did was to modernise, even colloquialise, parts of the language, especially that of the Hobbits and the Orcs.
To shock you, and maybe entertain you even, here are some examples of what he did:
Some say that Tolkien must be turning in his grave because of the Jackson movies. I guess you will now be assured that he was already rotating at an impressive speed even before. I don't know whether C.J.R. Tolkien ever commented on the new translation into German. I'm sure his opinion is/would be an interesting one.
One could just ignore the new translation, or regard it as an oddity, but this is the way that new German Tolkien readers encounter the Prof. This is the version that is sold in stores and the old translation is only obtainable by Amazon etc. and its price is annoying.
Now you know why I warned you a couple of months ago, Lal. ;)
Werder Bremen is out of the UEFA Cup and the Mavericks managed to get themselves an epically embarrassing playoff exit. Sports suck. Dammit.
I tried to call my parents but couldn't reach them. Folks, if you read this: 'tis important!
I still need to do my taxes for last year...
I can see the form from here. It looks at me and calls me an asshole...
I think I'm going to punish it with continued ignorance.
*sigh*
Why does it lately seem like the light is brigher after dusk?
An osprey! Cool.
There is one thing I simply fail to understand:
We have a person here who feels singled out from society. This is a sad thing, but I fear it is not too uncommon a thing. Moreover, I don't think it's a very new thing. At every time there were people who felt at odds with everybody else.
Why do some of these people feel the need to go out and kill innocent people whom they don't even know?
If you think your life is so fucking miserable, then end it. If there is a person whom you personally blame for your own misfortunes, then, for God's sake, go and take that one with you if you want to. All this isn't new, not at all.
What is different in present-day society that people who don't get along with it don't just kill themselves, but also want to take innocents with them?
Don't get me wrong, I really do feel for these miserable persons, who have to lead lifes so unhappy. But I don't get this.
Is it the anonymity? People rebel against their own anonymity by killing other anonymous?
Is it that you either are famous or you're nobody at all? To be famous at least in death?
Comment below and I will:

edit: Ack! It's been almost two weeks since last I made an entry! Shame upon me...
Bad: Made it through all winter without catching a cold and what happens now that it's getting warm outside? Right.
Good: I washed my car for the first time this year. It's red again now.
Bad: I've been jogging this weekend for the first time this year, which would count as good if I hadn't revealed how ridiculously out of shape I am. I barely made it back alive.
Good: Had half a LotR DVD session on the weekend. Even though it only went half through TTT, it was still a lot of fun!
Bad: The class I'll be tutoring this semester will require me to brush up my knowledge of power series, which suck. Curse thee, complex analysis!
Good: I'm about to get persuaded into Middle-earth-roleplaying. Can't say for certain whether this will be good, but I'm pretty optimistic. Let the dice roll!
Bad: My thesis research is about to stall, but that's not really something new...
Look at this (scroll down)!
Yeah, baby! 975 posts, first page rep-wise! Did it! Did it! Wheeee! :D
Lal, can you send davem my thanks? :)
Werewolf - A Mod's Perspective
Part III: Post-Desaster
Day Four - continued.
When we left Númenóre, we had a vote count of Lalaith 3, Saucepan 3, tgwbs 3, with Lalaith having gotten there first. Lalaith just retracted a little strangely from tgwbs to SPM. The Saucepan Man therefore should be lynched now.
But somehow my brain got the retraction wrong and removed tgwbs instead. The mistake wasn’t that horrible on its own, but I posted not only the deadline and the kill of tgwbs, but also immediately gave away his role. This way it was definite. The horrible thing is, I did this all the time! Each day I told myself not to: there could be cross-posting, I could make a fault...but no. Somehow, each day, I was so involved in following the game that I forgot it... four days in a row...
It’s this... stupidity, this thoughtlessness that I am cursing myself for, not so much the actual miscount, which could have happened to everybody. I’m even sure I wouldn’t have gotten it wrong if not both, tgwbs and SPM had been wolves.
Night Five.
One - hilarous, in hindsight - cross-posting hell broke loose on the admin thread after my fault. I decided to keep the solution as simple as possible. tgwbs had to die, the Saucepan Man got to live on. Mänwe was also killed - he failed to vote for two days, which absolved him from having to withdraw officially. I was too mixed up to do the narration at the time, so I delayed it on the next day. I only got to finish it one our prior to the deadline and Hookbill confused it with the night-narration and started posting. Not so hasty! ;)
Day Five.
It was clear to the wolves than SPM would become the main target of the Day, so he and Durelin planned to get some separation from each other and started to heavily suspect the other. A seemingly simple tactic, but it worked out marvellously and Durelin was suddenly regarded as innocent by most.
Generally, this was a quite straight-forward day, not much special, not much funny. Once more Lommy tried an analytic approach but was dissatisfied with the outcome. Yep, analysis is over-rated.
The idea to give SPM a pythonesque death (check his sig!) was a spontaneous one, unlike the others, which I already had in the back of my head more or less.
Night Six.
Kath got killed, nothing else.
Day Six.
Being now rid of obvious Faithfuls and known innocents, Day Six was somewhat nervous again. Durelin and Legate managed to blend in perfectly while the village was clutching at all the few straws they could find. In the end, this led to Ranger Gil-Galad being lynched. Unfortunately neither he nor Hunter Lommy were present at the deadline, so there was no big fight. Ironically Gil was lynched for being too right with his votes. I can’t remember Gil was ever lynched for, in fact, playing too well. ;)
Night Seven.
Durelin and Legate later said that they wanted to avoid the hunter this night. Apparently, they were no better at gifted-guessing than the innocents were at wolves-guessing the previous day: They went for Lommy. I couldn’t resist the urge to tell them even before the deadline what they had done, while leaving open the result of Lommy’s hunt.
The wolves were incredibly lucky, for it was only the second time in the whole game Lommy didn’t have a Faithful in her list. Many times, she had three of four.
Day Seven.
Because of Lommy’s strong suspicions towards Kitanna, she became a quasi-known innocent, but didn’t have the net-time to benefit from it. Being widely trusted Durelin started the voting with Hookbill and Mith took her lure and made it two. Lalaith, ever suspicious of Mith, immediately voted her in turn. At this point the village was pretty much doomed (though it didn't occur to me at the time. I was totally unaware that this could have been the last day!) Legate added a second vote for Mith and Kitanna sealed it with a third for Hookbill. Unfortunately, again, the victim wasn’t present to defend himself, so the game ended a little bit disappointing.
Concluding, I have to say that modding is much more exhausting than I thought, especially this having to be creative on command when writing the narrations. Other than that, it was extreme fun. Reading through all that is said while knowing the truth is very intriguing. I found myself to be rooting for the one side on one day, and for the other on the next.
And isn't this the nicest thing you have ever seen?
Me: So, when are we going to start next weekend? I think we should start fairly early, cause it's no fun when you have to force yourself to stay awake through the last hour.
Friend: What about three o'clock?
M: What??
F: Too early?
M: Three o'clock? Do you have any idea how late we are going to finish then? I thought about eleven, then ordering pizza or something between the first and the second and taking time to catch some fresh air between the second and the third. Then we might finish around one in the night.
F: Uhm, wait, about how much material are we talking about after all?
M: Three films, each about four hours, so twelve altogether.
F: Twelve hours???
M: Yes, of course.
F: I thought it would be around six...
M: Six? But the theatrical version already had more than three hours per film. How did you get the idea it would be only six hours?
F: Twelve hours... are we really sure we want to do this?
M: *stares*
F: We could watch one on each of the three coming weekends...
M: *stares*
F: Alright, let's do it like this: We start at eleven like you suggested, then watch the first two movies and then see in what kind of condition we are.
M: Okay...
Aaah! I was so looking forward to it and now this. But the important thing is to have fun watching it, so insisting on it would be idiotic. I'll just hope the best. (and I guess I'll buy lots of caffeinated stuff for them. ;D )
Werewolf - A Mod's Perspective
Part II: Pre-Desaster
(Reminder: Wolves: SPM, tgwbs, Durelin, Legate; Seer: Rikae, Ranger: Gil, Hunter: Lommy; Cobbler: Roa)
Day One.
I’m making a bold prediction: Mith will never ever again make a first post in a WW game. Her “If anyone has a watertight method for distinguishing gifted odd vibe from wolvish odd vibe please share!” haunted her for days. :D
Other than that, it began pretty Day-One-ish. The wolves played quite careful and contained and the innocents grasped every straw they could find. Rikae made a somewhat suspicious vote, but that was all - until Garin appeared, who seemingly ran mad with very suspicious behaviour. It was very ‘confused innocent’-ish from my perspective, but lacking alternatives, it came down to a race between him and Rikae. This ended with Rikae revealing her seer role (“I am the weaver!”, anyone? ;p ) and Garin went down.
As a side note, the triangle of Roa, SPM and Nogrod was extremely amusing from the Mod’s point of view.
Night Two
saw the withdrawals of Holbytlass and The Might, a pity. The wolves hoped that the ranger would gamble on Rikae - Gil didn't. So, two corpses and no murder.
Day Two.
Knowing Rikae would reveal Roa’s cobblerdom this day, I experienced Roa’s analysis-frenzy burying my head in my hands. All that work – and all the time I knew it would be for naught. Poor girl. And then Rikae even said she will only reveal her dreams later that day!
Well, after Roa had provided about 2/3 of the text for the day so far, Rikae told everybody they shouldn’t even bother reading it. Few even talked about the newly-known innocence of Nogrod, because Roa was now intend to draw all attention towards her for the time she had left, and she did it very successfully. A few even had doubts concerning Rikae’s seerdom. A great debate began whether it would be better to lynch Roa (and her noise and her evil vote) or let her live (to add her to the number of innocents while ignoring her), each side suspecting the other of containing the wolves (btw.: at the time I personally would have been for letting her live. In hindsight, if she would have been willing to keep her noise on the day two-level, she might have been a fatal distraction). It’s interesting to look at the votes Roa didn’t get: SPM, tgwbs, Legate. It didn’t look all that good for the wolves...
Night Three.
There was a little too much chatting on the admin thread, Glirdan had to be removed for not participating, but otherwise, all quiet on the modding front. Rikae got killed as expected.
Day Three
The guy and the shortlist, or: it's not what you write - it's what others like to read out of it. ;)
tgwbs talked about letting Nogrod make a list of three and then let everybody only vote one of those, but he clearly dismissed the idea. Many seemed to have misread it and ever and ever it was brought up again that it’s a bad idea and each time with the comment that his approval of it makes Jay look suspicious. Jay’s rising disgruntlement about this was priceless! The more he defended himself, the more eyebrows were raised.* ;D
Generally, this was an extremely focussed day: A lot of analysis, debate and well-founded arguments. It’s amazing how such a focussed village can still go so wrong. In the end it came down to an unholy - and very exciting - race between Rune and Brinn (I still don’t really understand what made so many people suspcious of the two..). The votes started to turn against Rune first, then some wanted to have a counter-bandwaggon, which became Brinniel. Short before the deadline, people wanted to save Brinniel again and lynch Rune instead, but too late: a tie, with Brinniel having the number of votes first. Not one vote had been cast against a wolf on this day - now it looked pretty good for them.
Night Four
Rune got killed, that’s all.
Day Four.
The Day of DOOM:
Mänwe starts it with making a weird comment in the day’s first post. For some reason dead-Roa exploded and wrote Mänwe a vitriolic PM. Mänwe in turn was seriously offended (understandably) and posts the whole PM on the admin thread (not understandably) and announces to withdraw. I caught up on the whole thing a little late because I was still finishing the narration. The first thing I did when I read what happened was PM Mänwe telling him to rethink his decision in my most soothing tone (while still asking him why he had to post the PM and what his comment in the game was about). I then responded to a PM from a person whose name I promised not to give away before I wrote a short statement for the admin thread (which got to feature some more comments in the meantime). When I previewed it, I saw that morm already had deleted all, which I think was the best decision to not let the game be overshadowed by it. I PMed him shortly how I saw the situation. Mänwe had answered in the meantime, telling me he will overthink his decision and then, after cooling down a bit, I PMed Roa. She promised to apologise openly once the game is over, which she later did.
I was hanging in the air a bit concerning Mänwe, which caused some comments in the game, but in the end he didn’t manage to vote, like the day before, and thus everything solved itself.
Yes, there was actually a game played, too. Nogrod finally gave a formidable alpha-known-innocent and vocally pinned down three wolves. The following squabble between him and especially tgwbs and Durelin was absolutely hilarious. It looked very good for the innocents now, but then a Lalaith-bandwaggon, initiated by SPM, came up and the others were divided between tgwbs and the Saucepan. Short before the deadline, all three had three votes each with Lalaith having gotten there first. She then retracted her vote from Jay to SPM, to save herself, in a slightly unconventional manner, but that is neither excuse nor explanation for what happened then...
For a beast more deadly than all wolves and cobblers combined entered the stage, inspiring fear and awe. Behold! the Confused Mod!
... to be continued.
*This reminds me of Day One in Valier’s game. I was talking about things concerning Kitanna in some of my posts and then a few accused me of trying to draw attention towards Kitanna in a sneaky way. The problem: each time I defended myself against this, I necessarily had to mention Kitanna again, which in turn made those people even more suspicious: a vicious circle that made me scream at the screen in the end.
( Movie Meme abducted from Brinn )
Not even bad. I found several on this list I definitely still need to see and several which could stand to be included in my small and quite exclusive DVD collection. Combined with the fact that I found more money on my account than I expected when I went to the bank yesterday (I check my account waay to seldomly), this might lead to a visit to Amazon in the very near future. :)
